The new SSC Subcommittee on Perioperative Thrombosis and Hemostasis will hold its inaugural meeting as an official Subcommittee at the ISTH 2017 Congress in Berlin, after previously serving as a Working Group for a few years.
“The management of perioperative hemostasis and thrombosis is a major issue and a great field of interest for the surgical teams in many countries,” said Subcommittee Chairman Marc Samama, M.D., Ph.D. “Being inter- or trans-disciplinary is the key. Collaborations between actors from different specialties are much more effective than mono-specialty working groups. We have built a strong network of competencies in this regard, and we are writing guidance in different directions for the ISTH.”
Samama highlighted a few of the presentations scheduled for the meeting as of particular importance:
- Alex Spyropoulos: “Pharmacokinetic” vs “laboratory” based strategy on management of OACs in elective procedures
- Jerrold Levy: Use of factor concentrates for managing bleeding
- Sophie Susen: Utility of TEG/ROTEM for monitoring
- Marc Samama:VTE prophylaxis in day surgery and fast-track surgery patients
The Perioperative Thrombosis and Hemostasis SSC Session begins at 14:00 on Saturday, July 8 in room A8.
